Because the best made $h!t never goes out of style.
There are a lot of other companies out there right now which make pens, flashlights and carabiners as accessories. Nice little anodized trinkets to complement their product line or extend their market reach in addition to their core competency...
US
At Tuff Writer, we specialize in taking great design ideas and making them into amazing products. In fact, we firmly believe that we make the best American made, CNC precision machined pens on the market. Why? Because innovative design and precision machined excellence is our core competency. From concept to design through rapid prototyping, production and all the way to assembly, we understand precision manufacturing (just ask any of the people we've collaborated with).
NO BS
Just to prove it, every product we make has our TUFF warranty. Through freezing cold, intense heat and the harshest conditions you're likely to find yourself in, our products will prevail so that you can prevail.
SMALL BUT MIGHTY
We make our rad gear in small batches. This small production size allows us to be nimble and able to work on different products at once, hopefully making sure we are never too far away from the next run of any model. It also means that there can be slight variations batch to batch (such as the variations in colors from anodized finish batches, and slight tweaks to dimensions and specs). Rest assured that through the small adjustments we might make, we will never spring a HUGE change on you unannounced, and it's all in effort to improve our own designs and get you the best possible pen.
MANUFACTURED IN THE USA
We'll keep this simple. All major Tuff Writer components (pen bodies, tips, clips, mechanisms, etc) are manufactured here in the USA. Every pen is finished in the USA. Every pen is assembled in the USA.
Off-the-shelf small parts are sourced from American companies (springs, screws, ball bearings, etc). Some parts are made by those companies, some outsource that work (and we are not always privy to their manufacturing partners).
Lastly, the ink refills we use are sourced from a variety of manufacturers all over the world. There are superb ink makers in the USA, Europe, and Asia that we daily drive in our own pens. We generally go with the companies that can meet our needs of price and performance, which usually is not US-based. There are only a handful of US ink makers, and they charge a premium at wholesale. We're not saying that the cost is not worth it - far from it. However, due to the wide variety of ink preferences we have seen in our customers, we choose to not add an extra $10+ to the retail cost of a pen to put in X ink refill that someone may or may not like. Instead, we ship our pens with a well-rounded, white-label ink refill. This saves the majority of users that like the "medium, black, ballpoint" from having to pay for a name-brand refill they don't want, while offering a pen ready for your favorite style refill if you have more discerning tastes.
